Easter Celebration at Home of Jesus the King Church

This past weekend at Home of Jesus the King Church we came together as a body of believers to celebrate the passion of our Lord Jesus Christ, commemorating how He gave Himself as a living sacrifice for us, to redeem us from sins and to usher us into everlasting life with the Father. It was a joyous celebration with all of our families at church, along with their children, as we danced and worshiped before the throne of God, in adoration of Him who had set us free!

The Lord had led me to share a message called “The Greater Shout in the World”, which centered specifically on the words that Jesus exclaimed on the cross in Matthew 27:46: ““Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”). It was at that exact moment that Jesus had taken upon Himself the sins of the world, past, present, and future, and as such God had to turn His face away from His beloved Son. He simply couldn’t gaze upon such darkness, sin, and despair that was heaped upon Jesus on the cross.

I spoke from Isaiah 53:5-6, where it is beautifully laid out how Jesus took all the sins of the world upon Himself on the cross, and just how tremendous the price was that He paid to set us free. I also shared from Hebrews 9:26 where we can see how Jesus’s sacrificial death on the cross stretches throughout eternity to redeem all who would accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. It was the defining moment in the history of mankind, where God’s plan of redemption came to fruition, opening the door for mankind to be reconciled to God after the fall in the Garden of Eden.

While Jesus took our sins on the cross, even creation recognized the immensity of what was happening, as darkness covered the earth, and a great fear came upon all of those present at the crucifixion. When Jesus died, the veil in the Temple was torn from top to bottom, signifying that the way into the Holy of Holies had now been opened to humanity – an opportunity to be reconciled with God. Hallelujah!

I continued sharing of how amazing it is to realize that a total of 69 prophecies from the Old Testament were fulfilled when Jesus was crucified – prophetic shadows disappeared and the truth was revealed before our eyes. In Genesis 3:15 we read about one of the oldest prophecies that were fulfilled on the cross.

“And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”

What a privilege to realize that through the cross a number of things happened to us who believe: we became the righteousness of God by faith; we became a new creation in Christ; and we became a fellow heir with Christ of the Kingdom of God. The Gospel truly is the Good News! Amen!
