Talpiot Food Project – Making a Difference in the Lives of the Poor!

At Home of Jesus the King Church, our mission is to spread the Gospel and to provide effective humanitarian aid to all of those to whom God leads us here in Israel. We believe in not just preaching faith, but also demonstrating it through good works, just as the Bible teaches us in James 2:14-17

“What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”

In the northern Israeli city of Haifa is a large outdoor market, Shuk Talipot, where people from all walks of life go to purchase fruits, bread, and vegetables for their households. Among the people who visit the market are many elderly and poor individuals, who go to collect unsold and damaged fruits and vegetables, because they can’t afford to buy fresh produce for themselves. These individuals rely heavily on the charity of others and are primarily from the Jewish community.

Soon after we heard about this situation, we here at HomeJTK felt compelled to act. The very next day, we began assembling food hampers with a variety of nutritious and long-lasting food items for distribution at the market to those in need. Ever since then our outreach team has been visiting the market on a regular basis to deliver food hampers to the poor and needy.

As my team and I distribute the food hampers, we are always met with surprise and disbelief. People are shocked as they witness the deep kindness that we as Israeli Arabs are extending to the Jewish community. Once the initial shock passes from the faces of those whom we meet, they would start smiling broadly and some would even shed tears of disbelief. Their gratitude is always so overwhelming, and it is such a powerful testament to the transformative power of Jesus’s love.

The people we help are usually very curious about our identity and our motivations, and as such, we see it as a divine window of opportunity for us to share about Jesus and our faith. They would listen with rapt attention when we as Israeli Arabs would witness to them about the Jewish Messiah of Israel, Yeshua (Jesus). It is at that point that living seed of the Word of God gets sown into their heart!

We always assure them of our commitment to return often with more food hampers and to help them in any way we can. We also always ask them how we can pray for them, and we have yet to find someone would refuse the offer of prayer. They are genuinely thankful for the practical help we offer, but more than that, the love of Jesus that they experience transforms their way of thinking and enlightens the eyes of their hearts.

This project is also one of the new avenues that we’re pursuing in order to widen the impact of our outreach and humanitarian efforts, to effectively aid more sectors of Israeli society. We invite you to join us in our mission to share the light and love of Jesus with Israelis. Please consider partnering with us monthly—together, we can achieve so much more! Thanks and God bless you!
